Mobile Charger Repaired
An office boy of my friend came to see me regarding some work. When he noticed that I do electrical repair work, he mentioned an issue with his mobile phone—it would charge intermittently. It was micro USB type charging socket, checked mobile on My Mobile charger it is working fine.
I asked him to bring the adapter, thinking there might be a fault with either the adapter or the charging cable. He brought the cable and charger the next day; I tested the cable with my charger and it worked fine, then I connected his charger and charging started, but the connection cut off after a while. When I asked him about it, he mentioned that he used to charge his device using someone else’s charger at the office; I told him to get a new charger. From his facial expressions, I gathered that he wasn’t in a position to buy a new one. I told him to leave the charger there and said I would let him know tomorrow. I removed the top cover of the mobile for inspection.
It is very difficult to open the top cover of this type of charger. They are interlocked and glued together.

I removed the PCB from the charger casing. The main issue with most of old mobile chargers lies in the ‘main filter capacitor’.
Checked components one capacitor showing suspected behaviour in multimeter hence removed it out of the circuit for testing & Foud ok.
Checked all other components all seems ok. The I took magnifier glass & I Found the culprit.
A ‘dry solder’ issue has been found in the USB socket connection; this is not visible when looking at the PCB from the top—you can refer to the PCB photo provided above. Re touched the solder joints.
Assembled everything back for testing.
Connected my mobile mostly I using only for capture Photos of the repair work & now it is working Ok.
Now charged is ready for the collect.
If such plastic cover parts need to be removed from any device like Mobile. Charger, Laptops Etc… inform the customer beforehand that they might break or that the original finish may not be restored upon re-fitting.
