Panel Replaced In Track Bypassed Nakamichi LED TV Model LEVX32

how to fix nakamichi led tv

This TV was inspected by me personally at the customer’s place as it was being used as a CCTV Monitor and he was not sure whether the problem was in the TV or the DVR. As I knew it was the problem of the TV, I dismantled it from its connections with the help of the caretaker and brought it home, powered it up, took the picture that you see above and shared it with my techie friend who handled panel level servicing staying around 30KMs from my home. He confirmed that it was a problem of the side COF and asked me to take it to him. After fixing a pre-arranged date and time, I took the TV in my car. He opened the TV and removed the panel for further inspection under a microscope.

He informed me that the panel was already bypassed by some technician before, as he saw a wire from the source COF to the Side COF and further the tracks on the panel were badly affected and it could not be restored and replacement of the panel was the only choice. I spoke to the customer and enquired whether the TV was given for repair. He did not remember as it was brought by him from abroad and used in one of his offices here as CCTV monitor. But he agreed for replacement of the panel. Let us have a look at the inside of this TV, the bypass done and worn out panel tracks:

In the first picture above, you might perhaps notice a damage to the light guide sheet on which the burn looks like a yellow sword on the bottom left. The bypass done is on the third picture.

The last picture shows the badly worn out tracks on the panel, as seen on the microscope monitor. Look at the right side to notice the missing tracks. A picture of the new panel is given below:

While the diffusor sheet was cleaned to the best possible extent and replaced, the light guide sheets were discarded as replacements were not available. What will happen to the image then? You can see that yourself in the second picture! Absolutely no difference when you look at the image!

This came to me as a surprise and my friend told me that in cases where a new panel is put, such sheets were discarded by him and it would not affect the image!

This was news to me! Then why the manufacturers use such sheets? Perhaps to provide even distribution of the back light and to protect the diffusor sheet from direct heat by the panel! Though I probed the web for a convincing answer, I could not find something good enough as a reference. Perhaps experts in this forum would offer their comments! The TV was delivered and fit back in the office and following picture would should you that it worked well:

Mission accomplished with satisfaction getting added to bag!

Yes, let us wait for others' opinion on this. The result of the image really baffled me too! I too take care to put back all the sheets as how it was before, by marking 1,2,3 in bottom corner. Many thanks for your expert comments, dear Albert!

I know you of course were replying to Waleed here, but I too have no idea what those now discarded light guide sheets were supposed to do?
I do not even have any clue how they looked since you sadly didn't share a photo of them either.
And I also fixed tv's in the past that didn't even had any decent light diffusing/spreading sheets at all. Which naturally showed afterwards as a lot of bright white sunny spots on its screen.

It has been an instinctive response for me as you usually respond first, and my brain is subconsciously programmed to respond like that! (Ha! Ha!) Only later did I realize the mistake and did not want to trouble our great Jestine Yong for that error!

Like you said, some of the things that we encounter in our technical works, are always providing surprises! It is a continued learning process!

Many thanks for your expert comments, dear Albert!
