How To Repair No Power Problem In Philips Mini Dvd Player
The complaint by the customer of this Philips Mini DVD Player was no power. I plugged in the AC input and indeed it was no power (dead set).
I took off the cover and head straight to the power supply board-see the photo below:
It contains lots of SMD components and when I applied the AC power there was zero volt at the output-see the photo below:
So now it is confirmed that the power supply is the cause of the problem. I began to use visual inspection to check on the components before really start to use the voltage testing method. I saw a SMD resistor that was without coding at the input to the bridge rectifier. R912 is 105 which means it is a 1 mega ohm resistor. From experience, usually the same series line will have the same part number. So this means I presumed the R911 also 1 mega ohm.
When I checked R911 with my multimeter I found that it was open circuit and this is the reason of no power symptom because the AC voltage can’t be delivered to the AC input of the SMD bridge rectifier.
I have the part because resistor is very easy to find and get from the market. Before I fixed in the new resistor, I reflowed the surrounding components-see the photo below:
Once the new resistor was fixed in and power On, the Philips DVD player came back to life. It is a pretty straight forward repair job. Well, hope you like my repair article. See you again.

I suppose the 1 Mohm smd resistor was part of a Mosfet switch or some sort of standby power saving circuit? It still was a good thing that you were able to find such a small almost unnoticeable defect component. Not many engineers would have found and solved it this easy!

Good job Sir. How about when you want to estimate the value of resistors in parallel and one is burnt and the code is lost ?

I thank you very much MR.Justine yong and all the Technician participating on this group. I have my own Electronics maintenance shop in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa). I will try to post my experience for the next time.
Now i want to assemble audio amplifier here in Ethiopia so that anyone who know the company that manufactures the parts, please give me the address. OR anyone who have 100% tested audio power amplifier with subwoofer schematic ckt by using TDA2030 Ic. Thank you!

Congratullation on the repair. Can you please explain a little more, what you mean by:" ... usually the same series line will have the same part number."
Which series do you mean?
Thank you

Dear Suranga, Same problem I have sent to in "Singer 32″ Skyworth LED TV With Dim Display Repair" article.
Good Job. I need help regarding UPS. I have Homage Matrix 1000 which is dead. I got it from neighbor. I want to repair it. I am trying to search on net the schematic diagram of it. I worked but fail to repair it. There is supply missing on PWM controller pin 7. I read the book of Mr. Jestine but something I am missing on it. some parts are already missing on it. I thing without schematic I can't repair it. Please help me.

Dear Suranga,
I am still waiting for solution of Homage Matrix 1000 UPS (Inverter). If any website of schematics kindly tell me the address of that website. This question is also for other experts of this website.
