A Simple Fix To An Electrical Blanket That Went Dead
My son’s teacher brought me a lot of items to fix and one of these items is an electrical blanket. The strange thing is the electrical blankets are used only in winter and for some reason this was brought to me for repair summer time.
This is the power controller that is used with the electrical blanket. When I powered up the device, I did not see any power indication on it.
This was done without attaching the blanket to the controller.
I have done this kind of repair so many time and it all come to three things; an open fuse, a shorted heating element or open fuse and shorted heating element.
As I took the four screws off, I headed directly to the main fuse and as expected, it was open. I checked the surrounding area components which are a diode and a resistor. Everything checked fine except the fuse. I replaced the open fuse and I was ready for testing.
Before I attached the controller to the blanket, I powered on the device and if you can look where the word ON is, the light came on but not very bright indicating everything is ok with the controller.
The major test when I connect it to the blanket let us find out.
The power was on and did not shut down which is a good indication that the heating element inside the blanket was not shorted. I let it sit there for almost half an hour and when I touched the blanket, I could feel the heat there.
Mission Accomplished.

All clear except where you wrote: it all come to three things: an open fuse, a shorted heating element or open fuse and shorted heating element. Twice, the same text and not three things either?

PS: After re-reading I get what you meant to say. Although I doubt that the fuse would blow without reason, which would be a shorting heating element.

Albert: yea, it was confusing to me to when i read it now. there is always a reason when the fuse blow. if the shorted heating element was the cause of the open fuse why it did not get open when I connected it again? I believe either its life span came to an end or some electrical issues from the main power line..we always have issues with that in our area. have a blessed day
