An Active Speaker System With A Ticking Noise Repaired

active speaker repair

A store owner brought this active speaker for repair. The main fault was it has ticking noise coming out of the speakers. It powers on fine but if I feed any sound source to it, that source will not heard.

Since it does power on and it can be connected to any blue tooth device and sound cannot be heard, my common sense is indicating to check the amplifier IC’s on board and that was my next step.

how to fix active speaker

I have done this repair before and usually this common failure comes from the two IC’s you see in the photo.

The active system has two speakers built in and therefore these two IC’s is what amplifies the sound to these speakers.

The part number is HT8693SP and I replaced both of them because the parts available and cheap in my country.

This is the finished product. The problem is I could not use the heat from my heat station due to the fact there are a lot of plastic parts around and I do not want to end up burning stuff around these IC’s.

I added low melt solder and I used the tip of the soldering tip till the part came out. I repeated the process on both IC’s and the result was great.

The speaker was urgently needed due to the fact this time of year is high school exams result come out and everybody want to party using music ( it is a very big thing in my country).

Mission Accomplished.

Good to know that these 2 HT8693 IC's fail often and then need to be replaced to fix the issue. Still odd that these small smd 10 Watt D-class amplifier chips do not get any cooling. The thicking noise is likely caused by the amplifier chip that probably gets to hot and fails to amplify within its limits.

Albert: they fail very often like you said, there is no cooling in these devices. I have repaired these before but this was the first one that had ticking noise in it, the rest was just so sound output. have a blessed day

      Babu:
thanks man. usually humming sound is caused by bad capacitors mainly in the power supply area. check these capacitors for bad ESR reading

I guess desoldering such ic with soldering tips will require making use of two soldering irons simultaneously. Thanks for sharing.

Imoudu: I used a low melt solder and used one soldering iron to de solder the ic. one pin at the time. have a good day.
