How To Fix A Hugong Welding Machine That Powers On But Does Not Weld
A welding technician brought this machine for repair. The customer explained that it welds badly and it goes into shut down tripping the earth leakage circuit.
That is one of the best welding machines I have encountered in the shop.
They are small and compact but the welding on it is just amazing.
It has two boards connected to each other through two sockets on both side of the board. There are a few screws holding the two boards together, remove the screws and the two boards will be free for check up.
That is the top view of this welding machine; the screws were out as seen in the photo.
That is one board and you can see the black socket to the left side of the photo.
So basically it is very easy to work on and take apart when needed.
That is the second board on this welding machine that has all the IGBT on. So as the customer said that it welds badly and it trips the earth leakage circuit? So I checked the IGBT for bad soldering joints / shorts but there were none.
If you look to this capacitor, you would see electrical sparks on the one of the pins and if you look also on the board where this capacitor was soldered on you would see that one hole is full solder and other one is not which indicates that one of the pins of the capacitor was broken off the board and that explains the electrical sparks show on this capacitor.
The damage is very clear on this side of the board so I cleaned the area and added another capacitor with longer pins to be soldered here.
I have plenty of these capacitors sitting in my shop and so I did the replacement, put the machine back together and tested.
That is the current limiter on when I powered on the machine and that is normal since there are heavy duty capacitors and a big fan running at the same time.
As always, I took it next door to my brother’s welding shop for testing and the machine was up and running according to specs; this time it was not tripping the Earth leakage in the shop.
Mission Accomplished.
