Microwave Oven Breakdown

This kenwood microwave oven is my wifes, which i have repaired a couple of times. This time around while being use,it started working intermittently and finally pack up.So as we all know how our wifes always want us to give them immediate attention when it comes to kitchen device breaking down and I my self was feeling hungry for breakfast,I immediately attended to her complaints…if not, it means very late breakfast meal LOL .

So open back cover,tested a/c input fuse, hv components…all tested good, however the bulb was burnt, thinking it might be bulb the problem, change it and power on…no change,I decided to replace magnetron…power on again ….no change still.Then I replaced the hv capacitor even though it read 12.5 mega ohoms with one reading 10 mega ohoms and power on…..it started working but not heating.

So I decided to test the door switches (3) with analog meter, the result of the first upper one(with 3 pins) was not satisfactory to me, so pull it out and retest,this time it pass the test, what is the problem then!!.

So I replaced the switch too and power on…..o la la..it started working and heating too. So remove the replacement magnetron and fix back the original one back,when power on, that also works and heat., however i can’t pinpoint which component is the culprit,well maybe the hv cap as it read over its value.

Well madam was happy and quickly finished the breakfast meal with relief.This is the finished repair work.

That HV capacitor certainly looked like it needed to be replaced. I suppose instead of only testing its resistance you also could have tested its capacitance and test it in a insulation resistance megger tester to see if it suddenly would short. Glad that you also found the bad working safety door micro switch and replaced the defect light bulb.

What should have been the correct value of the hv capacitor ? Things look so easy when you dont mention the problems met in parts replacing.For purposes of safety, always state the murderous dangers of working on microwaves, mark you, everybody nowadays goes for 'net solutions'.The photos when enlarged look clearly nice, Imoudu. God willing, I hope to purchase some greatly missed books, next August, by Hum. Now, a little of man-to-man talk.You see my distant brother, whatever you buy in your house belongs to 'her', even you, without knowing may occassionally be refered to as, 'my Imoudu'.Their degree of poccessiveness is even higher upon sensing 'a threat'. Sometimes I decline to offer help within the house whenever I feel pinned down by her. I postpone the matter then look for an excuse to leave the house to find something edible to cool down the pangs of hunger. Small hotels and 'other houses' keep men of my sort going. I would have easily failed the test. Muykit, nobody is reading, you are such a gossip !

If you zoom the replaced components'picture you will see the two values boldly written on capacitor's body in ohms and capacitance.
