Shutting down and ticking noise in Proview LCD screen repaired. Model 900G
The main complaint with this LCD computer monitor was shutting down. I plugged it in and there was ticking sound in the speakers before it went into shuts down. Power it off and then turn it again, it will work for a few minutes sometimes one hour then it shuts down again.
I took the cover off and the first thing that I saw was the black spot on the board. It was in the power supply area. That was my repair starting point.
The first thing that I notice in this area was the dry joint and right away I started re soldering that area. Then I continued to check the rest of the board for bad soldering joints. There were plenty of them. I had to re solder every soldering joint on this board. The moment I was done with that. I powered up the LCD screen and the ticking noise was gone but it lasted only a few minutes then it went into shut down.
This was the time to use the ESR meter and look for bad capacitors. I started in the primary section area of the power supply and found a bad capacitor there. It was 22uf/50 volts. When I tested with the ESR meter, there was no reading what so ever. I continued to look for bad capacitors but I could not find any more. I replaced it.
I put the LCD screen back together and powered it up. Like I said before, the ticking was gone but this time, it did not shut down.
To be honest with you, I was expecting to find more bad capacitors on that board but I did not. I was shocked to see that this small tiny 22uf/50 volt was the main cause of this shutting down. Sure, the dry soldering joints was also a cause but it did not cause that much because when I re soldered all the dry joints and powered up the LCD screen, only the ticking was gone. Still, it went into shut down.
