LED TV REPAIR SOFTWARE PROBLEM

Those of you who have not read my previous article on this TV, may please do so using the following link:

In the above, the case (2) was this TV. As you might have noticed, I had to replace a lot of components in the TV and do modification of the PS to bring it back to life. That issue was in September, 2022.

This TV was brought to me again in June, 2024 with the complaint that it remains in standby mode and did not respond to any commands from RC Units or from the switches provided on the side of the TV.

I opened this TV and checked for voltages on the PS, which was intact. The 3.3V on the Mother Board was also ok. The 1.2V for the uController IC was also found ok. The 1.8V and another 3.3V which get generated only after standby release, was just coming and going off immediately, indicating that the uController was trying to start but something is shutting it down. In order for us to know the narrations better, I give below the photos of the mother board:

In the first picture, the arrow pointing to the right is the IC converting 5V to 3.3V. The one at the top pointing downwards is the DC to DC IC supplying 1.2V from 5V to the Main IC. The other two pointing to the left are 3.3V and 1.8V for other functions that will start only after IC switches on. My techie friends guided me well through Whatsup and asked me to check whether the voltage to the Memory IC (25L3206E) was proper. I checked and confirmed that it was ok.

Then they said the software could have got corrupted and sent me the BIN file. I removed the SMD IC using Hot Blower and loaded it to my CH341A (Black) programmer, saved the program in it to a file in my computer and then erased it clean. Then copied the new program to it. Then refixed the SMD IC back to the board. (You can locate it just below the main IC) Let us see some more pictures, before seeing a picture on the TV:

Then I reconnected the board and applied power. It took a few seconds and then switched on to bring a childish amusement in me! I played music from USB and allowed it to run for a few hours before closing the back cover.

I thanked my techie friends for their prompt help! Satisfaction mixed with amusement got added to its collection.

Flashing todays eeproms is very easy with a RT809H or another universal programmer. But knowing when to do just that to fix a serious issue was key here!
Glad you now also find new ways to repair mainboard issues by using modern programming methods.

That happen to me a few years ago with an HP desk top PC. A power interruption corrupted the bios and I had to flash it with a programmer. I did not have to remove the bios from the motherboard. I used the clip attachment. Well done on the repair.
