An LCD TV That Has No Stand By Light Repaired And Maintained
A guy and a friend of mine who works for my brother next door approached me with a question about an LCD TV repair. He said that his father sent this TV to be fixed by another technician and it was not fixed and he asked me to take a look at it and if was not fixable I could have it for free and use it for parts.
This kind of TV is considered to be very old and not worth the repair
but since the customer is a friend of mine I was willing to help out as much as I can.
I powered the TV on and there was no stand by light seen so I checked for output voltages going to the main board and there was none. At first I suspected a power supply issue because I saw a lot of cold soldering joints and solder cracks all over that board so right away I re soldered every pin on that board but sad to say the problem remained.
That is the main board and there lots of things to be checked on that board so before checking there I reflowed the main chip on that board but still no change.
I started to check for shorts on that board and right away, next to the main chip I found lots of capacitors that shorted short to ground and it seems like the main chip was shorted because when I took these capacitors off board, the short remained.
Shorted components were found in that location and I could not do anything about it except replace this faulty board with a working one and so the search started for such board.
After one week of searching in my area I was able to find any old board and as seen in the photo, it was a working one. Sorry I was not able to take a photo of the replacement but I replaced it and it worked just fine.
I called the guy and when he came to the shop he was shocked that the TV was working fine. I connected a source to it and the picture just nice and clear.
At the end of the day, I loaded the TV in my car and took my friend to his house, installed it, connected it to a source and made sure that everything is running within specs.
Mission Accomplished.

Sometimes the only solution is to replace a board. The time, cost and effort to replace individual components can easily outway the cost of an operating board.
Well done!

Mark: totally agree especially when the main IC was shorted out and no replacement found that was my clear direction to go through in this repair. have a blessed day

Good job! Waleed
if possible Buy Thermal camera which helps a lot to figure out the culprit.

Yogesh: I already invested in a thermal camera and usually used in finding faults in laptop boards and sometimes other boards but i never had the chance to use it on main boards. have a blessed day

I wonder why you didn't suspect the power board since there is no standby light! well thanks for sharing.

Imoudu: I suspected the power supply at first but since the voltage were coming out after the soldering joint were re soldered, the next step was the main board. have a blessed day
