Dell Laptop SSD NVMe Drive Installation Problem
Received a call from one office for Dell Laptop & they need help for installing the additional M.2 NVMe drive. As per the scope of work I gave them estimate for installation & Data Migration cost from their old Hard drive to new drive. They replied me they will provide me material as well I have to just install the device physically rest of the process they will do & I got the approval from them as per the estimate of installation only.
I visited their office & they provide Laptop & m.2 NVMe stick to me.
I asked them how they came to know that this stick is compatible to this laptop model? they replied someone from the office tried to install but they can’t success…. Now I understood the situation. I opened the laptop for the process.
I ask them what problem they were facing for the installation. They stated Size of the NVMe is big & does not Fit in the area.
I also admitted the situation asked them to replace the stick with the smaller size I also suggested the size of M.2 is 2230. They told me that they already tried but they not finding it from nearby vendor.
I am just discussing with them but my mind was looking for some other solution. I visualize the area & found the solution. Meanwhile there is a tea break they ordered for me also.
I didn’t discuss much with him technically. (From my past experience, if you tell the customer how to do it they will not call you next time and they will do it themselves & you lose the business).
In this laptop they kept the option to attach different size of the unit. Just Remove the Screw & slide the metal plate & remove & same way installs it on the left side.
I did the adjustment & done.
After adjustment I installed the NVMe stick on its place.
After placing the unit, I reassembled the laptop & confirmed under the BIOS setting about detecting the new NVMe stick. customer also checked & confirmed the working.
He eventually asked me how you did it. Now tell me what will be my answer?

Very interesting and unique problems and fix! You should certainly keep a few cards up your sleeves for your own survival! That's quite ok! Many thanks for sharing! The answer could be 'I did some adjustment' without giving details!

Sir,
This is the exact words i used when customer asked me How you did it.
Most of the equipment used are either for entertainment or for business and we cannot provide these services and other knowledge for free to customer if the customer does not belong to our technical service community.
Practically we are charging customer for our knowledge /Experience,time and Effort to arrange the parts and make their equipment in working order for them .This is how business works.

They say time is money. And both we have only in limited quantities. We know that possession doesn't equal joy. Knowing intuitively that happiness is not found in owning more. So if someone appeals to our heart and we are able to give our help for free we do.
But still such events are therefore sadly very limited.

God job ! But having not tought your newly acquired FRIENDS the installation of the laptops driver stick must have made them regret to miss a learning opportunity. You are an engineer, explain to them the process hurriedly with complications full of unnesessary electronics jargon, explain only once when they are not paying attention. If they insist that you repeat then refer them to Jestine Yong electronics books because they want to run before they learn how to walk by offering you only a cup of tea, then they will start boasting about how much they know. Yogesh, most highly learned people are the worst teachers, thats why students rely on further research elsewhere.
