HP LCD Computer Monitor Repaired. Model V/85WS

By on June 4, 2013

A friend of mine brought this LCD monitor to be fixed. The problem was vertical lines on it. For your information, when I see these kinds of lines displayed, I usually think of bad LCD panel. I have read so many articles about this kind of repair and all of them suggested sending it back to the customer because it is a waste for time to work on this kind of problems.

One article came to mind that suggested otherwise. I remember reading an article by Mr. Jestine Yong who dealt with this kind of problem and got it fixed. I was willing to give it a try and see what happens.

I noticed when I press on the LCD panel, some of the lines disappear which indicates problems either in the board of the panel or the interface connector to the main board. Sometimes, the cable is loose causing the vertical lines to appear.

I took the cover off and started to inspect any damage on the LCD panel board. I did not see any damage but only the board on that LCD panel is loose. Usually there are screws that hold it to the metal part of the LCD panel but this one was not attached to the board and the tape that holds this board to the metal part of the panel was gone. I am assuming that someone tried to fix it and did not put the screws back on board.

I took some screws from a bad LCD panel that I have in the shop and I screwed the board back to the metal part of the LCD and added some duct tape to the whole board making it more secure.

I plugged the LCD screen to my laptop and the vertical lines on that panel disappeared. That put a smile on my face. I connected it to my laptop and tested the LCD screen for an hour and the picture looked great.

Waleed, Thank you for reminding us that simple fixes are sometimes just as worthy of our time as complex ones. I recently was asked to look at a hand controler on a surgical procedure table that was intermittent. The manufacturer no longer provides support or parts even though this table is in excellent condition and only ten yours old. It is very expensive to replace. I opened the plastic housing and found a push on fastener which is used to hold the mini circuit board in place floating loose inside. I pushed it back on where it belonged and closed up the hand piece. Problem solved. I became a celebrity for a time over something so simple and now have a very good clinical client.
