Intermittent On/Off Problem Solved In YAMAHA RX-V485 Receiver Amplifier
This set was brought to me by my school classmate with the complaint that it was intermittently going on/off. Though I had directed him to take it to another technician in town, due to overload of work with me, it was lying with him for many months as he could not solve the problem.
That’s how; I gave a green signal to my friend to bring it in. I opened and dismantled the set and subjected it to thorough cleaning.
Then retouched the SMPS board, amplifier board, display board and uController Board (Mother Board) wherever I found dry solders.
Then cleaned and lubricated all the connectors and gave connections keeping the front panel outside. I was happy to see the set working.
Then fit the boards back properly and allowed it to run for hours and a couple of days. The Amp worked very well even in cold restart (in the morning) and I was sure the problem was due to dry solder and dust collection inside the connectors.
Hence fit the set back and gave delivery, deriving great satisfaction of different kind which also got collected to the bag! Mission accomplished with excitement for both of us!

yes, the cold soldering joints can do such problems and I do not like to do such a job bucause I have to check all the boards for that and it is a time consuming and once that is done, the repair is sweet but getting to that result is the not my favorit. good job on the repair and have a blessed day

Good job Parasuraman,
It's amazing how many 'difficult' or intermittent repairs can be traced to dry solder joints

The main cause for many problems including major, is of-course dry solder. Many thanks for your comments!
