Picture Restored LED TV Panel Had To Be Replaced In DIANORA DN-3201-V

This LED TV was brought to me by a new customer with the complaint that there was no picture while the sound was ok. I opened and cleaned the set thoroughly and applied power and found that the backlight was on, but there was no picture. The voltages at the scaler board such as VGL, VGH etc. were missing while the panel voltage of 12V was present.
This was a sure care of shorting of either some components in the scalar board or the panel itself. In order to isolate the problem area, I cut the LC1, LC2 tracks on the scaler board, which is a usual practice. But even then the voltages were missing. One IC was getting extremely hot, exposing the possible cause and therefore I removed it:
Then the voltages were ok, which indicated that the problem was in this IC or its connected load. I checked each and every tiny component on the board and also checked the panel tracks for any shorts. I could not find any. So, ordered for a new IC and replaced it, upon which the display got on, but with another problem which could not be solved. The panel had a crack at the bottom centre, as though something had hit it like a ball played by children in the house.
Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of this. When I informed the customer about it, he was ignorant of it and then I became morally responsible for the damage! This is a risk that we technicians have to face. Since the TV was taken up for repair only after a few weeks due to other personal problems in the house, I did not remember whether I had told the customer the usual caution that I would not be responsible if a crack of panel was noticed after restoring the display, which I usually do. Anyhow, I kept my techie friends informed about it and though they all offered to help me with second hand panels of 32”, which are the track cut and restored types, the distance made it very difficult and I kept on postponing it. Then one day, when I took other TVs for repair to a faraway place as a part of interactive technical study, I carried this also, as one of the techie friends offered his help. The techie friends helped me by opening the TV once again and removing the panel and replacing it with the working one. I carried the old panel and dumped it along with several others found lying outside in the compound of the techie friend in whose house we had the meet:
Then the TV was found working very well and it was left on for several hours before I carried it back home and did another test in my house too.
My techie friends did not take any money from me, which came to my rescue!
Mission accomplished with satisfactions of multiple kind coated this time with love and care of my techie friends!

PS: did you know that for safely measuring with oscilloscope probes in crt tv sets a special affordable 100:1 P4100 probe exists Parasuraman? Just ordered one P4100 myself for safe testing on HV smsps units and TV's. I guess it could be very useful for your crt repairs if available in your country?
After all 21000 Volts devided by 100 is already a safe scope input voltage of 210 Volts!

Dear Albert, many thanks for this information. Import from China is restricted in our country. I shall, however, save this information for any probable future use. Secondly, I have more or less decided to discontinue service of CRT TV due to its weight and unreliable & spurious spare parts such as LOT, IC etc

Yes, I am indeed lucky to have such friends who show love and care. Here, the culture is respecting and regarding an elderly person. I am an elderly technician going great guns even at the age of 76 running and my techie friends compete to do one favour or other to me, which sometimes even choke me! Many thanks, dear Albert!

As usual, excellent repair Parasuraman. Repairing LED tv is a risk we have to take always, I always expose them to the sunlight while the owner is present. This is done to check for any cracks, although the initiative is not for all led tv, some have very dark panels that do not reveal the minor cracks

Yes, even a torch light cannot bring out the cracks, which might be very minute on some corner. Many thanks for your comments!

You are very lucky to have a friend like that ;good friends are hard to come by now a days. On the other hand customers like that make me so angry as they try their best to scam us for profit. I hope he helped with the cost of the ic at least. Have a blessed day

Good Job! Sir
This is the same risk factor which I discussed earlier, it is a good practice to clearly mention the risk factors to the customer during repair or troubleshooting and share consent message on his mobile before handling the device.

Have you ever had problem with any of your customers with complaints of 'signal cutting tracks repaired panel' not lasting long after repair as expected before going bad again?
This what scares me off.I guess it's a combo universal motherboard with what brand name. Thanks for sharing sir

Cutting and shaving of data lines to bypass shorted panels is a risky method and one cannot say how long it would last. We have to make the customer understand the risk and make sure that the 'no guarantee' part of it is registered! Many thanks!

What I gather from the wonderful repair is that cracks in a screen can cause a short amongst CKV/LVDS thin conduits which may also damage scaler board components. Dear Engineer Parasuraman, has any of your techie friends shown you a screen with cut lines that lasted for more than six months of generally average operation ?

I have number of cases already where the TVs in which I have cut the lines, have worked for not many months, but years! But there are certain cases that would not last long, as reported by my techie friends! Anyhow, we always take advance bail by telling the customers the absolute truth and we do the track cuts only after that. Most of the customers are willing to take the risk. Many thanks for your comments and queries!

Fellow technicians, I have for long observed that its hard to meet a tough-talking or talkative skilled technician/artisan. They speak little. When for example commenting on a long article, all a technician says is, good work, thanks. Having a polite nature makes bad clients misuse some technicians by making them accept unfair deals. For instance, it would pain me as a technician for a client to think that I deserve to be paid peanuts for I look humble (maybe preferring to wear a faded jeans) and I had only a screwdriver to sort out a technical issue in his house. Such like clients have made me to fast be askng for down-payment before starting any repair. Technicians rights ought to be respected as professionals. Fellow technicians before entering any form of repair agreement thoroughly assess a situation depending on your profession. That may save you lots of trouble later. Also, let there be no room for breach of contract. Dear technicians, like other professionals, use well your talent & knowhow from GOD
