Third Visit Of Videocon LED TV Model V-3218 With Picture Freezing Problems
I request you all to read the following two articles to know the background of this LED TV:
https://jestineyong.com/no-picture-problem-in-videocon-v3218-resolved/
The first visit was in May, 2022 when the panel was replaced. The second visit was in February, 2024 when the inverter board was replaced. This TV made another visit in September, 2025 with the complaint of freezing frames of pictures and developing horizontal lines after working for almost an hour. The difficulty in attending to such problems which surface only after operation for an hour or so, was that it consumed not only the energy but our time too preventing taking up of any other work until it was solved.
Anyhow, I opened the set and was surprised to see that all the secondary caps in the power supply were bulged! How the TV was working in this condition without going to standby or off mode, is something which baffled me as well as my techie friends when shared! Anyhow I replaced the caps and switched on the TV to watch the result, assuming that these could have been the defects that caused the picture freezing. To my dismay, the picture started shaking and freezing after an hour’s play and further developed to horizontal lines progressively:
This proved that the panel had got affected due to power surges and continued use of the TV with improper filter conditions.

I sought help from my techie friend, who told me to locate the odd/even lines on the scalar board, give VGL to even and VGH to odd cutting the tracks that come from the board and again switch on TV to wait and see the result:
But this time, the problem started after a prolonged time, which indicated that the panel had developed internal leakage between the data tracks. So, the next advice was to lift one end of two resistors from the extreme end, first on the left side of the scalar board and try.
If the problem persisted, I was asked to rejoin that and do the same on the right side. I did it on the left side first. Following is a picture of the resistors before I removed one end.
Then waited for more than two hours watching the TV frequently while I engaged myself in some work in the computer, which really strained my neck. But the picture was steady and TV did not show any problems even after keeping it on for several hours. Then refit the back cover and again ran it for almost 10 hours in the next day, keeping it in my son’s bedroom. This type of solution is not permanent and the panel is likely to develop shorts in other areas too like an infectious disease. There was no guarantee for how long it would work. But it will certainly extend the life a bit more. I told the customer to raise funds for replacing the panel soon, if the problems surface again as that was the only solution.
I forgot to mention that the customer did not give me its original remote control and the universal ones that I had did not work on all functions. I was not able to adjust the settings because of that. The control panel which housed the press to on buttons did not also work as the switches were defective. I replaced them too to enable manual operation of the TV. Anyhow, mission accomplished which qualified the derived satisfaction to get an entry into the collection bag.

Thank you for sharing and solving another strange tv revisiting problem.
As you know I am not as experienced in tv repair compared to you dear Parasurman, why explanations like "give VGL to even and VGH to odd by cutting the tracks that come from the board" really does not make much sense to me? And using cutting and connecting in one sentence is contradictio in terminis.
Short article repairs like this one is, are leaving out too much information to be helpful for any tv layman like me.

If someone could spend so much money on a tv for repairs within the space of four years, I think logically such tv should be replaced with new one.
I'm even surprised to read that tv panel can be affected by power surge, not only power board!!.Well all the same thinks for sharing.

Yes, it can! Kindly remember that the panel contains semiconductors which can get affected due to voltage fluctuations and other reasons like any other component we find in the mother board and power supply board! Many thanks for your comments, dear Imoudu!

The panel that replaced the faulty panel is half faulty and will soon or later be replaced with a panel that might be replaced by another panel ....... Oh ! This LED 'panel' TV !

Yes, indeed! To tell you frankly, by the time this article is published, the TV has already undergone a panel change and it is working very well know!

Following a constant 'harassment' by the T-con board in one way or another, the panel may as well decide not to keep up with the 'bully' and call it quits. A slight over current/voltage possibility is probable.
